A special National Investigation Agency court in Jammu has issued an open-dated non-bailable warrant against Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed in connection with the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. NIA Court Issues Warrant Against Hafiz Saeed The special court issued the warrant on July 8, two days after the NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet naming Saeed as an accused in the terror attack case. The agency told the court that Saeed had deliberately evaded arrest and that his detention and custodial interrogation were necessary for a complete and effective investigation. The warrant has been forwarded to the NIA’s Jammu unit for execution in accordance with the law. An open-dated warrant remains valid until the accused is arrested or the court withdraws the order. Hafiz Saeed Named in Pahalgam Chargesheet The NIA charged the 76-year-old in his personal capacity and as the chief of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy organisation, The Resistance Front. He has been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Saeed, who is based in Pakistan, is also accused of involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Pahalgam Attack Killed 26 People The terror attack took place near Pahalgam in south Kashmir on April 22, 2025. Three terrorists opened fire on civilians, killing 25 tourists and one local resident. The NIA has alleged that the attack was planned and executed by Pakistan-backed terrorists as part of a wider conspiracy involving Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front. The latest court order advances legal proceedings against those accused of planning the attack from outside India.
