Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and the Nordic countries are “natural partners” because of their shared commitment to democracy, rule of law and multilateralism, as leaders met for the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo. India-Nordic Summit In Oslo Addressing the summit, Modi thanked Norway for hosting the meeting and welcomed the leaders of the Nordic countries. He said shared democratic values and respect for international cooperation form the basis of India’s growing partnership with the region. The third India-Nordic Summit brought together India and five Nordic nations: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in innovation, technology, green growth, investment and sustainable development. India-Nordic Cooperation On Green Technology Modi highlighted the importance of future-ready partnerships, including research, innovation, skill development and talent mobility. The Nordic countries are known for advanced clean energy, climate technology and sustainable urban systems, making them important partners for India’s development goals. The summit also discussed ways to deepen trade and investment ties. India is looking to expand cooperation with Nordic countries in areas such as renewable energy, digital technology, startups, climate action and resilient supply chains. PM Modi Norway Visit The summit was part of Modi’s wider overseas visit covering multiple countries. His visit to Norway was significant as it marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Scandinavian nation in more than four decades. The India-Nordic format began with the first summit in Stockholm in 2018, followed by the second summit in Copenhagen in 2022. The Oslo meeting continued that diplomatic engagement at a time when India is expanding its partnerships with Europe.
