Oracle Restructuring Costs Rise to $2.8 Billion The additional expenditure will take the expected cost of Oracle’s fiscal 2026 restructuring programme to approximately $2.8 billion. The programme includes workforce reductions and the termination of certain contracts as Oracle reshapes its operations around rapidly expanding demand for AI and cloud computing. The company has not disclosed how many additional employees will be affected by the latest increase in restructuring expenditure. AI Data Centres Drive Heavy Oracle Spending Oracle is investing heavily in data centres, computing capacity and other infrastructure required to serve AI customers. Capital expenditure reached $28.5 billion during its latest quarter as the company accelerated construction and deployment of cloud infrastructure. The investment push has put substantial pressure on cash generation. Oracle reported negative free cash flow of $5.4 billion, although that was better than market expectations. To support its investment programme, Oracle plans to raise around $40 billion through debt and equity during the fiscal year. Oracle AI Cloud Demand Continues to Surge Despite concerns surrounding spending, Oracle’s underlying cloud business continues to expand rapidly. The company secured more than $30 billion in new AI cloud contracts during the quarter, helping lift its total remaining performance obligations, a measure of contracted future revenue, to approximately $664 billion. Oracle’s revenue rose 30% year-on-year to $19.3 billion, exceeding market expectations. The company is effectively pursuing two strategies simultaneously: cutting costs across parts of its existing operations while committing billions of dollars to infrastructure needed to compete in the rapidly expanding AI cloud market.
