Iran has dismissed the latest US sanctions campaign as another measure destined to fail, with Economy and Finance Minister Ali Madanizadeh saying Tehran has prepared a two-year plan to withstand intensified economic pressure from Washington. US Expands Operation Economic Outcast The Trump administration has meanwhile expanded its sanctions campaign under “Operation Economic Outcast,” targeting around 60 Iran-linked individuals, companies and vessels. The measures focus on military procurement, cyber activities, shipping and oil-related networks. Washington has also warned foreign businesses and governments that continued economic engagement with sanctioned Iranian entities could expose them to additional penalties. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has described the initiative as a major financial offensive aimed at restricting Iran’s access to international markets and revenue. Tehran Warns of Retaliation Against Economic Pressure Iranian officials have responded by threatening retaliation against countries that actively participate in Washington’s sanctions campaign. Tehran continues to rely heavily on economic relationships with countries including China and Russia as it attempts to limit the impact of US restrictions. The latest confrontation comes amid continued tension surrounding Iranian oil exports and the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides signalling that economic pressure will remain a central part of their wider strategic confrontation.
