Ohio governor election results – Bharat Pulse News

Republican politician and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has lost the Ohio gubernatorial election to Democrat Amy Acton, delivering a significant setback to President Donald Trump's party in the November 3, 2026, US midterm elections. Acton's victory ends two decades of Republican control of the Ohio governorship and makes her the first woman elected to lead the state. Amy Acton Defeats Trump-Backed Vivek Ramaswamy Acton, a physician and former director of the Ohio Department of Health, defeated Ramaswamy despite his endorsements from Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The 60-year-old Democrat campaigned on healthcare access, affordability and economic concerns, drawing on her experience managing Ohio's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ramaswamy, who previously sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, had positioned himself as a prominent supporter of Trump's political agenda. Acton will succeed Republican Governor Mike DeWine, who was barred from seeking another consecutive term. Democrats Record Major Gains in Republican States The Ohio result forms part of broader Democratic gains in the midterm elections. In Texas, Democrat James Talarico was projected to defeat Republican Ken Paxton in a closely watched Senate contest, marking a significant political shift in the traditionally Republican state. Democrats were also projected to regain control of the House of Representatives, strengthening their ability to scrutinise the Trump administration. Ohio Result Marks Setback for Trump's Republican Party Ohio has increasingly supported Republican candidates in presidential elections, making Acton's victory particularly significant. Her win also comes after a contentious campaign marked by personal attacks and disputes over the candidates' records. Ramaswamy's campaign faced criticism over an advertisement featuring Acton's estranged mother, which was subsequently withdrawn. The election results will reshape Ohio's political leadership and influence the balance of power in Washington during the remaining two years of Trump's presidency.
