More than 10 lakh vehicles registered in neighbouring National Capital Region (NCR) cities could be affected by Delhi's new pollution-control restrictions beginning November 1, 2026. The Delhi government will prohibit petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside the capital that fail to meet Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) emission standards. The restrictions will remain in force until January 31, 2027, as part of the capital's winter pollution action plan. Over 10 Lakh NCR Vehicles Face Delhi Entry Ban Transport department estimates indicate that Gurugram and Faridabad together have nearly two lakh vehicles below BS-VI standards, including approximately 50,000 commercial vehicles. Noida and Greater Noida account for more than four lakh non-compliant vehicles, with BS-IV vehicles representing over half the total, predominantly petrol cars. Ghaziabad has approximately four lakh vehicles below BS-VI standards. However, not every vehicle included in these estimates will necessarily be prohibited from entering Delhi because certain categories qualify for exemptions. Delhi to Deploy AI Cameras at Border Checkpoints Authorities will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to identify vehicles entering Delhi and verify their registration and emission compliance. Approximately 300 transport enforcement personnel will be deployed at border checkpoints, particularly along routes connecting Delhi with Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad. Officials will also conduct physical inspections to prevent restricted vehicles from entering the capital. BS-VI Vehicle Ban Exemptions and Pollution Rules The restrictions will not apply to CNG and electric vehicles, ambulances, fire tenders and specified essential-service vehicles. BS-VI-compliant vehicles registered outside Delhi can continue entering the capital. Delhi-registered vehicles are not covered by this particular restriction, although existing vehicle-age and pollution regulations remain applicable. The government will separately enforce its 'No PUC, No Fuel' policy, requiring motorists to possess valid Pollution Under Control certificates. The measures are intended to reduce vehicular emissions during Delhi's winter pollution season.
