Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that India has overtaken Japan to become the world's third-largest automobile market, following the United States and China. Addressing a function at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) in Dhar, Gadkari highlighted the sector's growth and set an ambitious goal for India to lead the global auto industry. Industry Growth Gadkari noted that when he assumed office, the Indian automobile industry's size was ₹7.5 trillion. It has since expanded to ₹22 trillion, creating 4.5 crore jobs and contributing significantly to Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues. Global Rankings Currently, the U.S. automobile industry leads with a size of ₹78 trillion, followed by China at ₹47 trillion. India's recent advancement to the third position underscores its rapid development in the automotive sector. Future Aspirations Gadkari expressed the government's ambition to make India the number one automobile manufacturing hub globally. He emphasized the industry's role in job creation, revenue generation, and exports, indicating a strategic focus on further growth and development.
