Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on June 20 declared that India has entered a new era of strategic assertiveness, stating that “New India is assertive, resolute and will no longer be a victim of terrorism.” The remarks were made during his visit to the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, where he met senior military leaders and interacted with soldiers ahead of International Yoga Day. Operation Sindoor: Not Over Yet Singh emphasized that Operation Sindoor, launched in May following the Pahalgam terror attack, was a decisive counter to cross-border terrorism. According to him, the operation had “sent a powerful message to terrorists and their patrons,” making it clear that India will retaliate firmly if provoked again. He warned that should Pakistan continue to support terror elements, it would face “disastrous consequences.” Operation Sindoor, he noted, is currently in a paused state, not concluded. He hailed the coordination between the armed forces and intelligence agencies, crediting their planning and courage in striking deep into hostile territory. Singh added that such precision operations are part of a broader doctrine of zero-tolerance for terrorism. Soldiers, Strength and Strategic Fitness During his interaction with troops at a ceremonial "bada khana," the Defence Minister linked the strength of India’s borders to the physical and mental fitness of its soldiers. “If you are strong, our borders will be strong. When the borders are strong, India will be strong,” he said. Singh urged soldiers to continue their tradition of discipline, courage, and sacrifice, underlining the role of military morale in safeguarding national security. He also addressed the upcoming International Yoga Day, praising the armed forces for integrating wellness practices that enhance endurance and resilience. He said India’s ability to respond to threats had dramatically evolved, thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of its uniformed personnel. Strategic Shift in National Security Singh’s strong words come at a time when global attention is focused on regional security in South Asia. His statements are viewed as part of India’s redefined security posture, which places proactive deterrence at the center of its response strategy. The days of strategic restraint are over, Singh implied, and India will now strike back when provoked. The Defence Minister’s message was clear: India will not tolerate any external attempts to destabilize its peace. The country’s doctrine has changed, and so has its confidence.
