India has urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for alleged rights violations and excessive police action amid escalating protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi said the continuing unrest reflected longstanding public grievances over governance, economic conditions and political representation. India Raises Concern Over PoK Protests The Ministry of External Affairs said the demonstrations were a direct consequence of Pakistan’s policies in the region, including systemic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights and administrative oppression. India accused Pakistani authorities of responding to legitimate public grievances with excessive force instead of addressing the protesters’ demands. New Delhi called on the global community to take note of the situation and hold Pakistan responsible for alleged abuses. Protesters Plan Muzaffarabad Long March The Awami Action Committee, which has been leading the agitation, announced plans for a long march to Muzaffarabad on July 15 after negotiations with the authorities reportedly failed. Protest leaders said discussions had ended without an acceptable resolution and indicated that the movement would continue. The planned march is expected to test whether authorities allow demonstrators to enter the regional capital without intervention. Security concerns have increased amid fears of clashes between protesters and law enforcement personnel. Economic and Political Demands Drive Unrest The demonstrations include demands for subsidised wheat flour, lower electricity tariffs, improved governance and greater accountability from Pakistan’s federal and regional authorities. Protesters have also opposed a court ruling that upheld 12 legislative assembly seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees settled in Pakistan. They argue that the arrangement weakens the political representation of residents living in the region. Similar demonstrations have occurred in recent years over rising living costs, public services and political rights.
