Mustafizur – Bharat Pulse News

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 squad following a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision came amid political and diplomatic tensions related to recent events in Bangladesh. Decision and Context KKR had acquired Mustafizur at the IPL 2026 mini-auction for ₹9.20 crore, making him the most expensive Bangladeshi player in the league’s history. However, on January 3, 2026, the BCCI instructed the franchise to release him ahead of the upcoming season due to “recent developments”, a reference to evolving political sentiment and controversy surrounding his participation. KKR confirmed the release, stating it was carried out following due process and consultation with the BCCI. The board has also assured KKR that the franchise may sign a replacement player under IPL regulations once they decide on a substitute. Reactions and Implications The move has sparked debate within cricket and political circles over the intersection of sport and geopolitics. Some commentators argue that decisions affecting individual players should be separate from broader political issues, while others support the regulatory body’s caution given current tensions. Mustafizur, a seasoned T20 bowler with experience across several IPL teams in previous seasons, will now miss the 2026 edition unless future developments change his status.
