Morne Morkel – Bharat Pulse News

In a significant development ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has departed from the team's training camp in Dubai to return to South Africa following a personal tragedy. The former South African fast bowler's sudden exit comes just days before India's opening match against Bangladesh, raising concerns about the team's bowling preparations. Morne Morkel Returns Home Amid Personal Tragedy Morkel, who joined the Indian coaching staff in August 2024, traveled with the team to Dubai on February 15 and actively participated in the initial training sessions at the ICC Academy. However, he was notably absent from the practice session on February 17. It has been reported that his departure is due to the passing of his father, Albert Morkel. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to confirm whether Morkel will rejoin the squad during the tournament. Impact on India's Bowling Unit Morkel's absence poses challenges for India's bowling lineup, especially with key pacer Jasprit Bumrah not included in the squad and senior bowler Mohammed Shami struggling with form. The relatively inexperienced duo of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana may face added pressure in the upcoming matches. Morkel's expertise and guidance have been instrumental in shaping the team's bowling strategies, and his sudden departure could disrupt the unit's cohesion. Team India's Preparations Continue Despite this setback, the Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, is proceeding with its preparations. After a scheduled break, the squad is set to resume training on February 19, focusing on fine-tuning strategies ahead of their first match against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium. The coaching staff and players are working diligently to adapt to the unforeseen circumstances and maintain their focus on the tournament objectives. As the situation develops, the team management and fans alike are hopeful for Morkel's well-being and potential return. In the interim, the coaching staff will need to adjust and ensure that the bowling unit remains prepared and confident as they embark on their Champions Trophy campaign.
