Morkel updates – Bharat Pulse News

India’s experienced seamer Mohammed Shami, recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the 2023 ODI World Cup, has made a strong return to competitive cricket. Bowling coach Morne Morkel praised Shami’s impressive seven-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy as a significant step forward for the pacer and the team. Morkel Stresses Patience with Shami’s Return Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy curtain-raiser in Perth, Morkel emphasized the importance of giving Shami the necessary time to regain full fitness. "We’re definitely keeping a close eye on him," Morkel said. "Shami is a world-class bowler, but we must respect the fact that he’s been out of the game for nearly a year." Shami's first-class return last week saw him play a crucial role in Bengal’s narrow 11-run win against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. With 229 wickets in 64 Tests, Shami’s return adds significant depth to India’s bowling lineup. A Measured Approach Morkel highlighted the team’s focus on supporting Shami's recovery. “It’s a massive win for us to see him back. Picking up wickets in his first game is a testament to his skill,” he said. "We’re working closely with support staff back home to ensure he gets the best opportunity to find his way back, whether in red-ball or white-ball cricket." India’s team management is exercising caution to ensure Shami’s long-term availability, especially with high-stakes series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the horizon.
