Balagopal has outlined a strategic focus on advancing metro rail projects in the cities of Kochi, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram. This initiative aims to bolster urban transportation and address the escalating traffic challenges in these rapidly growing urban centers. Kochi Metro Expansion The existing Kochi Metro network is set for significant expansion. The Phase II Pink Line project has already commenced, necessitating increased funding in the current fiscal year. This extension is anticipated to improve connectivity within the city, offering residents a more efficient and reliable public transportation option. The SilverLine semi high-speed rail initiative, designed to connect the northern and southern regions of Kerala, remains under consideration. However, it faces uncertainties due to suggested modifications to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by central authorities. The budget also highlights the planned completion of 150 bridges across the state, aiming to improve transportation infrastructure and connectivity. Furthermore, allocations have been made for the development of ports and highways, underscoring the government's holistic approach to enhancing the state's infrastructure. Conclusion The Kerala Budget 2025-26 demonstrates a clear commitment to advancing urban transportation through the expansion of metro rail projects and the development of comprehensive infrastructure. These initiatives are poised to significantly impact the state's economic growth and the quality of life for its residents.
