Jharkhand students and government job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations have given the Hemant Soren government until August 18 to meet their demands. Protesters have warned that they will march towards the Chief Minister’s residence on August 20 if the deadlock continues. Jharkhand Students Set August 18 Deadline The agitation entered its 24th day on Monday, with protesters demanding major changes to the state’s recruitment examination process. Their demands include cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination, cancellation of the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations and scrapping examinations conducted through or linked to testing agency TDPL. The protesters are also demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into alleged irregularities surrounding the examinations. Protesters Threaten Hemant Soren Residence March Student leaders said that if their demands are not addressed by the August 18 deadline, demonstrators will march towards Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence on August 20. Protesters have also warned that they could demand Soren’s resignation if the recruitment dispute remains unresolved. The agitation intensified after an August 10 march towards the Jharkhand Assembly resulted in clashes between protesters and police. Jharkhand Government Calls Students for Talks The state government has invited a delegation of protesting students and their legal adviser for another round of discussions in Ranchi. Ministers are expected to participate in the negotiations as the government seeks to resolve the prolonged standoff over recruitment examinations and alleged irregularities. The dispute has placed increasing pressure on the Soren government to address concerns over transparency, examination procedures and recruitment delays affecting thousands of government job aspirants.
