Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” between the United States and Iran has been electronically signed and will enter into force with immediate effect. The agreement is aimed at halting hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and beginning technical-level talks for a wider diplomatic settlement. Islamabad MoU Enters Immediate Effect Sharif said the memorandum had been signed by the Presidents of the United States and Iran and endorsed by Pakistan in its role as mediator. He described the agreement as a major diplomatic step towards resolving the conflict through dialogue. According to Sharif, the signing at the highest level of both governments reflects a commitment to de-escalation and a negotiated settlement. The agreement is expected to provide the basis for further discussions on regional security, maritime access and long-term stability. Iran To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz As part of the first phase of the agreement, Iran is expected to reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately. The move is significant as the waterway is one of the world’s most important routes for oil and gas shipments. The United States is also expected to lift its naval blockade with immediate effect. The reopening of the route could ease pressure on global energy markets and help restore commercial maritime movement in the Gulf region. Pakistan Qatar Mediation In US Iran Deal Sharif said Pakistan, with support from Qatar as co-mediator, will host the official ceremony on June 19, 2026, in Switzerland. The event is expected to mark the formal commemoration of the agreement and the beginning of technical-level talks. The next phase will focus on implementation details and broader issues linked to the conflict. Sharif said he hoped the memorandum would support greater understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity across the region.
