He said some Iranian officials wanted the conflict to end, while more radical figures favoured continuing hostilities. According to Vance, Washington must navigate these competing factions while using diplomatic, economic and military pressure to secure the best possible outcome. His comments reflected continuing uncertainty over whether Iranian representatives could deliver and implement a broader agreement. US-Iran Talks Remain Uncertain Iran has publicly denied holding direct negotiations with the United States, although Trump said American officials recently participated in an all-day negotiation involving Tehran. Oman has remained an important intermediary in discussions concerning regional security and maritime access. Separate talks between Iran and Oman have produced progress on a proposed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. However, critical questions concerning navigation control, security arrangements and possible charges on commercial vessels remain unresolved. A temporary agreement could ease pressure on global shipping and create an opening for wider negotiations. Both sides, however, continue to combine diplomatic statements with military warnings.
