SIR Voter Roll Revision Becomes New Flashpoint Mamata linked her remarks to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which has become one of the biggest controversies ahead of the election. She alleged that many genuine voters had their names deleted and accused the BJP of trying to take away voting rights. The revised rolls reportedly removed over 63 lakh names, while more than 60 lakh voters were placed under adjudication, turning the issue into a central campaign dispute. Bengal Election Campaign Grows More Polarised The BJP hit back strongly, saying Mamata’s remarks reflected fear of defeat and were unfit for a Chief Minister holding constitutional office. The exchange shows how sharply polarised the Bengal election campaign has become, with infiltration, voter rolls and minority voting rights now central to the contest. West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
