Indian Navy upgrade – Bharat Pulse News

India's Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is set to approve the procurement of 26 Rafale M fighter jets to strengthen the Indian Navy’s maritime defense capabilities. This decision marks a significant step toward enhancing the country’s naval aviation capabilities and maintaining a robust presence in the Indo-Pacific region. Boost to Naval Aviation The Rafale M (Marine) jets, a variant specifically designed for naval operations, will be deployed on India’s indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. These state-of-the-art jets are equipped to handle complex maritime missions, including air-to-air combat, anti-ship strikes, and reconnaissance. The inclusion of Rafale M jets is expected to significantly augment the operational strength of the Navy, ensuring better preparedness against potential threats in maritime zones. The jets' advanced features, such as their ability to operate from short runways and their superior payload capacity, make them ideal for naval operations. Strategic Importance The purchase is part of India's broader strategy to modernize its defense forces and enhance its capabilities in the strategically significant Indo-Pacific region. The acquisition aligns with India’s goal of creating a self-reliant defense ecosystem while simultaneously boosting its global standing in military preparedness. This decision comes in the backdrop of increasing geopolitical tensions and the growing need for maritime security. Strengthening the naval fleet with cutting-edge fighter jets will bolster India’s ability to safeguard its maritime interests and maintain regional stability. Timeline and Budget The deal, valued at several billion dollars, is expected to be finalized soon after the CCS’s formal approval. It includes 22 single-seat and 4 twin-seat Rafale M jets, along with associated equipment, maintenance, and logistical support. The first batch of jets is anticipated to be delivered within a few years, with training and operational readiness beginning shortly after. France-India Defense Ties This procurement underscores the deepening defense collaboration between India and France. The Rafale M jets, manufactured by Dassault Aviation, have already proven their mettle in various military operations worldwide. The acquisition will further enhance the interoperability between Indian and French forces, opening avenues for joint exercises and operational synergy in the future. By incorporating Rafale M jets into its fleet, India reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a technologically advanced and combat-ready Navy, ensuring security and stability in the region.
