An Indian diplomat objected to an incorrect map of India displayed during a foreign policy seminar in Dhaka, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. The objection was raised during a presentation focused on regional cooperation in South Asia. Indian Diplomat Flags Incorrect India Map Pooja Kumari Jha, Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, raised the issue while attending a seminar at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies. The event, titled “Rebuilding Trust, Renewing Regional Integration: Pathways for Revitalising SAARC,” included a presentation by former Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Ahmed Tariq Karim. Jha intervened after noticing that the map used in the presentation incorrectly depicted Jammu and Kashmir. She immediately clarified India’s official position on the Union Territory. Jammu and Kashmir Integral Part of India Jha stated that the map of India displayed during the event was incorrect and stressed that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral part of the country. Karim responded that the map had been used only for representational purposes and was not intended to show actual political boundaries. The Indian diplomat acknowledged the clarification but maintained that the incorrect depiction needed to be formally pointed out. Karim subsequently said her objection had been noted. Dhaka Seminar Focuses on SAARC Cooperation The seminar examined ways to rebuild trust among South Asian countries and revive cooperation through the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. Karim’s presentation discussed colonial borders, regional identity and the political challenges affecting integration across South Asia. Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed, attended the event as the chief guest.
