India coach – Bharat Pulse News

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has flown back to India from England after a sudden family emergency involving his mother. The development comes just days ahead of the highly anticipated five-Test series between India and England, with Gambhir having traveled early to oversee preparations, including the India A vs England Lions fixture. Gambhir Leaves Mid-Tour Over Family Health Crisis According to sources close to the team setup, Gambhir’s departure was prompted by a severe health scare. His mother is reported to have suffered a heart attack and is currently under intensive care at a hospital in New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is said to be in constant touch with Gambhir and has extended full support to him during this difficult time. “Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is returning to India from England due to a family emergency,” confirmed insiders aware of the situation. Gambhir had been actively involved in pre-series strategy meetings and monitoring players' form during warm-up sessions. His early return marks a significant moment as this is his first major overseas assignment as head coach after being appointed earlier this year. Coaching Duties Handed to Deputies In Gambhir’s absence, the team’s training sessions and intra-squad match scheduled from June 13 will be overseen by assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, alongside bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. Despite the unexpected development, the coaching team is expected to maintain the momentum ahead of the first Test. “Yes. He’s gone back for a family emergency,” confirmed team officials, without disclosing a specific return date. India’s England Tour Continues The five-match Test series begins June 20 at Headingley, followed by matches at Birmingham, Lord’s, The Oval, and Manchester. This tour is critical for India, especially under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, as the team enters a fresh era post the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Gambhir’s leadership was expected to provide stability during this transition. While his return timeline remains unclear, officials are hopeful he might rejoin the squad by June 17 if his mother’s condition improves. For now, the team is focused on preparation and maintaining morale, while the cricketing fraternity extends heartfelt wishes for Gambhir's mother’s recovery.
