Hormozgan fishing boat incident

Iran has announced that two fishermen previously reported missing following an alleged American attack on fishing boats near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz have been found. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, amid heightened military tensions between Tehran and Washington. Iranian authorities accused US forces of targeting civilian fishing vessels, although the allegations have not been independently verified. Iran Accuses US Forces of Attacking Fishing Boats Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Iran's Hormozgan province, said two fishing boats carrying four people were allegedly attacked near Qeshm Island at approximately 11.30 am local time. According to Iranian officials, two fishermen were initially brought back to Qeshm, while the remaining two were reported missing. Initial accounts differed over the number of injured fishermen, with reports indicating that at least one person had suffered injuries. Two Missing Iranian Fishermen Found Near Qeshm Island Iranian state television subsequently announced that the two missing fishermen had been located following search and rescue efforts. Local fishing representatives identified the rescued individuals as a father and son. One reportedly sustained injuries to both legs. The incident raised concerns about the safety of civilian fishing communities operating around the Strait of Hormuz, where military activity and restrictions on maritime movement have intensified. US Yet to Confirm Alleged Strait of Hormuz Attack There was no immediate confirmation from US Central Command, which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, regarding the reported incident. The allegations emerged as Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned that Tehran would respond immediately to any further American or Israeli military threats. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for international petroleum transportation, and continuing maritime incidents have increased concerns about regional security. Responsibility for the reported fishing boat attack remains unconfirmed.
