Investor sentiment improved after the bank named Bagchi as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term beginning October 27. He will become the first external candidate to lead HDFC Bank. Anup Bagchi to Succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan Bagchi will succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan, who decided not to seek another term after completing his second three-year tenure. Bagchi currently heads ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and previously held senior positions at ICICI Bank and ICICI Securities. His experience spans retail and wholesale banking, digital services, wealth management, capital markets and insurance. Analysts broadly welcomed the appointment, arguing that an external leader could bring a fresh perspective to HDFC Bank’s operating structure and growth strategy. Deposit Growth and Leadership Stability in Focus Bagchi is expected to focus on strengthening senior management, accelerating deposit growth and improving productivity across HDFC Bank’s branch network. The lender recently reported an 18.8% year-on-year increase in deposits and a 16.3% rise in gross advances at the end of September. The appointment also removes a major source of uncertainty for investors following recent changes at the top of the organisation.
