FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has told the organisation’s 211 member associations that they could receive up to $40 million each if they support a proposal to bring private investors into the commercial operations of the World Cup and other competitions. FIFA Offers $40 Million Funding Package Under the plan, FIFA would establish a commercial entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise to manage broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing, licensing and other revenue-generating activities. FIFA reportedly plans to sell a 20% stake in the business to private investors, potentially raising around $4.2 billion and valuing the new entity at approximately $20 billion. Member associations supporting the proposal could gain access to an expanded development funding package worth up to $40 million. Those rejecting the plan would remain eligible for existing FIFA funding but could miss the additional financial distribution. Associations Given September Deadline Infantino has reportedly asked national football associations to decide by September 19 whether they will participate in the proposed arrangement. FIFA maintains that involvement would be voluntary and that the organisation would retain control over football governance, competition formats and sporting decisions. However, critics argue that linking enhanced funding to support for the proposal places financial pressure on smaller associations that depend heavily on FIFA development grants. UEFA Opposes World Cup Investment Plan UEFA and several other football bodies have raised concerns over transparency, consultation and the involvement of private investors in FIFA’s flagship competitions. Opponents fear that investor expectations could influence tournament expansion, scheduling and commercial decisions. UEFA has called an emergency meeting with its member associations to coordinate a response. FIFA has defended the proposal as a way to increase revenue and distribute more money for football development worldwide.
