EV manufacturing – Bharat Pulse News

In a strategic move to support its energy transition and accelerate the production of electric vehicles (EVs), India has announced the launch of a Critical Minerals Mission. This initiative aims to ensure the sustainable and secure supply of essential minerals required for green technologies, including EV batteries, renewable energy systems, and advanced electronics. Key Objectives of the Mission The Critical Minerals Mission will focus on building a resilient supply chain for vital resources such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements. These minerals are indispensable for manufacturing EV batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and other clean energy solutions. The initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, as outlined during the COP26 summit. By prioritizing the development of domestic capabilities and international partnerships, the mission seeks to reduce dependence on imports and address supply chain vulnerabilities. Strategic Partnerships and Exploration The government plans to collaborate with countries rich in critical mineral reserves, such as Australia and Canada, to secure long-term agreements. It will also focus on identifying and developing domestic sources of these minerals through enhanced exploration activities. Officials from the Ministry of Mines highlighted that the mission will include the establishment of a dedicated agency to oversee exploration, processing, and recycling of critical minerals. The agency will work in tandem with private stakeholders and research institutions to develop innovative extraction and processing technologies. Boost for EV Manufacturing The mission is expected to provide a significant impetus to India’s EV manufacturing sector, which has seen rapid growth in recent years. By securing a steady supply of critical minerals, manufacturers can lower production costs and scale up operations, ultimately driving greater adoption of EVs across the country. A Step Toward Self-Reliance The Critical Minerals Mission underscores India’s commitment to achieving energy security while fostering a self-reliant economy. As the global demand for critical minerals continues to rise, India’s proactive measures are poised to position the nation as a key player in the green technology ecosystem.
