Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Egypt could potentially join the newly established defence framework involving Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, indicating that the regional security partnership may expand to include additional countries. Egypt Could Join Regional Defence Pact Erdogan said Egypt could become part of the defence arrangement, although no formal decision on Cairo’s participation has yet been announced. The agreement between Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is designed to strengthen military and security cooperation among the participating countries. Its collective defence provisions envisage members supporting one another in the event of an armed attack. Egypt’s participation would significantly broaden the geographical and strategic reach of the emerging security framework, connecting major military powers across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Turkiye Backs Wider Security Cooperation Erdogan indicated that the defence arrangement could remain open to other countries interested in deeper regional security cooperation. Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan already maintain extensive bilateral defence relationships, including military training, defence industry cooperation and joint exercises. The new framework seeks to strengthen coordination between the three countries at a broader multilateral level. Officials have presented the agreement as a defensive partnership rather than an alliance directed against any particular country. Erdogan Discusses Regional Security Challenges Erdogan also addressed wider security developments across the Middle East, including tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and continuing conflicts in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon. Ankara has sought to position itself as an active diplomatic and security player across the region while maintaining relations with several competing regional powers. Any decision by Egypt to join the defence arrangement would add another major Arab military power to the framework and could further reshape regional security cooperation.
