India has achieved a significant milestone in indigenous defence capabilities with the successful testing of the long-range glide bomb 'Gaurav'. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the bomb was released from the Su-30 MKI aircraft during trials conducted from April 8 to April 10, 2025. ‘Gaurav’ is a 1,000 kg class glide bomb capable of engaging land targets with exceptional precision at ranges approaching 100 kilometers. The recent flight trials validated its accuracy and operational readiness, reinforcing India's ability to deliver high-impact standoff weaponry from its frontline air platforms. Designed and developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat, Armament Research and Development Establishment, and the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, ‘Gaurav’ represents a fully indigenous solution for long-range precision strike missions. During the trials, the bomb was integrated at multiple station points on the Su-30 MKI aircraft in different warhead configurations, demonstrating its flexibility and compatibility with existing combat platforms. The success of this program reflects a robust collaborative effort between the DRDO and key industry players such as Adani Defence Systems & Technologies, Bharat Forge, and several Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Certification and quality assurance were overseen by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO, the Indian Air Force, and the industry partners for the successful demonstration, noting that the LRGB ‘Gaurav’ will greatly enhance India’s precision strike capability and reinforce self-reliance in defence production. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also congratulated the scientific teams for their dedication and technical excellence in achieving this feat. The development and successful testing of ‘Gaurav’ mark a major step forward in India's goal of building a fully indigenous arsenal of advanced smart munitions for its armed forces.
