Donald Trump Iran war gas prices

US Vice-President JD Vance has faced criticism after blaming rising petrol prices on what he described as "tin-pot dictators" triggering international conflicts. Speaking at a Republican campaign rally in Montana on Monday, October 26, 2026, Vance acknowledged public frustration over fuel costs. His remarks prompted social media users to draw comparisons with President Donald Trump's decision to launch military operations against Iran earlier this year. JD Vance Blames Global Conflicts for High Gas Prices Addressing voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, Vance argued that geopolitical conflicts had repeatedly caused sharp increases in energy prices. He cited historical fuel price spikes in 1979, 2001, 2007 and 2022, including the surge following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Vance acknowledged that petrol prices remained high and that the Trump administration needed to do more to address inflation and household expenses. He also criticised economic conditions inherited from former President Joe Biden's administration. Trump's Iran War Sparks Social Media Backlash Vance's comments drew criticism from social media users who questioned whether his description could also apply to Trump. Critics pointed to the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, launched in February 2026, which has contributed to disruptions in global energy markets. Several users accused Vance of overlooking the impact of his own administration's foreign policy decisions. However, Vance did not identify Trump as a dictator or directly criticise the president during his remarks. Rising Fuel Prices Become US Midterm Election Issue Energy costs and inflation have emerged as important campaign issues ahead of the November 3 congressional elections. Vance defended the administration's energy strategy, arguing that increasing domestic oil and gas production would help protect American consumers from international supply disruptions. The controversy highlights continuing political disagreements over responsibility for rising living costs and the economic consequences of Washington's military involvement in West Asia.
