Donald Trump administration reshuffle

US President Donald Trump has appointed his longtime adviser Stephen Miller as the new White House Chief of Staff, replacing Susie Wiles following the Republican Party's setbacks in the November 3 midterm elections. The announcement was made on Friday, November 6, with Miller scheduled to assume office on November 9. Stephen Miller Replaces Susie Wiles in White House Reshuffle Trump confirmed the appointment through Truth Social, describing Miller as one of his most trusted advisers. The 41-year-old previously served as Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Adviser. Susie Wiles, who became the first woman to serve as White House Chief of Staff, is leaving the position after overseeing Trump's return to the presidency and the initial years of his second administration. Trump praised Wiles for her service and indicated that she would continue working with his political organisation. Stephen Miller's Role in Trump's Immigration Policies Miller has been closely associated with Trump's political movement since the 2016 presidential campaign and played a central role in developing the administration's immigration enforcement policies. He has advocated stricter border controls, expanded deportations and stronger executive action on immigration. His appointment places an influential policy adviser in charge of coordinating White House operations, managing presidential priorities and overseeing senior administration staff. White House Leadership Change Follows Midterm Defeat The reshuffle comes after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections, significantly changing the political environment facing Trump's administration. Trump maintained that the leadership change was not a response to the election results. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed Miller's appointment, while Democratic congressional leaders criticised the decision, citing his role in the administration's immigration policies.
