The BCCI has revised its playing conditions for the 2026–27 Indian domestic cricket season, introducing changes covering deliberate no-balls, overthrows, leg-side wides and the completion of the day’s final over. BCCI Domestic Cricket Rule Changes Under the updated conditions, a bowler found to have delivered a deliberate front-foot no-ball or intentional non-pitching delivery will be suspended from bowling for the remainder of the match. Previously, the suspension applied only to the innings in which the offence occurred. The decision will be made by the on-field umpires. The stricter sanction is intended to ensure that deliberate illegal deliveries carry the same consequence across multi-innings matches. Another red-ball change requires the final over of a day to be completed even if a wicket falls during it. This prevents a batting side from avoiding the arrival of a new batter late in the day. Overthrow and Dead Ball Rules The revised regulations provide a clearer definition of an overthrow. The term will apply when a fielder attempts to direct the ball towards the stumps to prevent a run or secure a run-out. An ordinary misfield or unsuccessful attempt to stop the ball will not automatically qualify. Umpires will also have greater discretion when determining whether the ball is finally settled. It may now be considered dead when held by any fielder or when stationary on the ground, rather than only after reaching the bowler or wicketkeeper. Leg-Side Wide Guidelines Updated The BCCI has introduced clearer guidelines for judging leg-side wides in one-day and T20 competitions. The change is designed to improve consistency when batters move around the crease before a delivery. Additional amendments require all fielders to remain inside the boundary when the ball is delivered. Declarations and forfeitures will no longer be allowed in a match’s final innings, while one-day coaches may enter the field during scheduled drinks intervals.
