In a significant breakthrough, the Kolkata Police have apprehended 12 individuals, including the alleged mastermind, behind a sophisticated digital arrest scam. The operation involved duping unsuspecting victims by posing as law enforcement officers, using fake digital documents and threats to extort money. How the Scam Operated The perpetrators reportedly operated a well-coordinated racket, targeting individuals through fraudulent phone calls. Posing as police officers, they intimidated victims by fabricating fake charges and issuing digital "arrest warrants." Victims were coerced into paying hefty sums to avoid so-called legal action. The scam employed advanced digital tools to create fake documents, lending credibility to their threats. According to investigators, the scam not only exploited technological loopholes but also preyed on people's fear of legal repercussions. Citizens are encouraged to verify any legal communication and report suspicious activities immediately. Growing Concern Over Digital Scams The case highlights the increasing sophistication of cyber scams in India. With the rise of digital tools, scammers are exploiting new ways to deceive unsuspecting individuals. Law enforcement agencies across the country are ramping up efforts to combat such crimes, focusing on public awareness and advanced cybercrime tracking methods.
