Delhi airport BRICS restrictions

Airspace restrictions have been imposed across a 300-km radius of Delhi from September 11 to 13 as part of heightened security for the BRICS Summit 2026. The curbs primarily affect non-scheduled flights, while regular commercial airline services will continue to operate. Non-Scheduled Flights Barred Around Delhi Under a Notice to Airmen issued ahead of the summit, non-scheduled flight operations will not be permitted between 7 am and 11 pm from September 11 through September 13. The restriction applies to airports within a 300-km radius of the national capital and will affect private charter flights and other unscheduled aviation activity. Scheduled commercial passenger flights are exempt, meaning normal airline operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport are not subject to a blanket shutdown. BRICS Delegation Flights Exempt From Restrictions Special aircraft carrying BRICS leaders and official delegations will also be allowed to operate after receiving advance security clearance. Government aircraft and helicopters carrying governors or chief ministers are exempt, along with authorised flights operated by the Indian Air Force, Border Security Force and Aviation Research Centre. Army Aviation helicopters engaged in Quick Response Team missions and approved casualty or emergency medical evacuation flights will also be permitted. Delhi Tightens Security for BRICS 2026 The aviation restrictions form part of extensive security arrangements for the September 12-13 BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. Authorities have also restricted light aircraft, microlights, drones and other unmanned aerial systems around the capital during the summit period. Delhi Police, CISF and other agencies have simultaneously conducted security drills at Metro stations and strengthened surveillance across key routes, airports and summit venues as international leaders arrive in the capital.
