Trump Fires US Attorney General Pam Bondi U.S. President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from office, ending a turbulent tenure at the Justice Department that had drawn sustained political scrutiny. The sudden move adds to a growing pattern of leadership churn inside the administration and raises fresh questions about stability at the top of the U.S. legal system. Pam Bondi Removed As Attorney General Trump announced that Bondi was out as attorney general and said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche would take over as acting attorney general. Bondi had served in the role since early 2025 and was one of Trump’s most loyal cabinet figures. Her exit came abruptly, with the White House offering only limited public explanation beyond saying she would move to a private-sector role. Todd Blanche Named Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as one of Trump’s personal lawyers before taking a top Justice Department role, has now been elevated to lead the department on an acting basis. His appointment signals continuity in political loyalty, but it is also likely to deepen debate over the independence of the Justice Department, especially because of his close past association with Trump. Justice Department Faces Fresh Scrutiny Bondi’s tenure had been marked by repeated controversy, including criticism over politically sensitive investigations and her handling of files linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Her departure follows mounting pressure from both opponents and some figures within Trump’s own political space, making the leadership change more than a routine cabinet reshuffle. Trump Administration Shake-Up Continues The removal of Bondi underlines how quickly senior officials can fall out of favour in Trump’s administration. With the Justice Department now under interim leadership, attention will shift to whether Trump nominates a permanent successor soon and what that choice signals for the future direction of federal law enforcement.
