BCCI statement – Bharat Pulse News

In light of the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season for one week. The decision comes amid growing security concerns, especially in northern regions of the country, and follows widespread disruption including the cancellation of a match in Dharamshala earlier this week. The BCCI announced the suspension with immediate effect, stating that further decisions regarding the revised schedule and potential changes in venues would be taken after a detailed review of the ground situation in consultation with central agencies, state authorities, and tournament stakeholders. IPL 2025 Suspended Temporarily "While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country. The BCCI remains firmly committed to support all efforts that safeguard India and will always align its decisions in the best interest of the nation," the board said in a formal statement. This move marks the first such interruption in IPL 2025, which had until now proceeded despite rising hostilities. However, with recent developments including the activation of civil defence protocols by the Ministry of Home Affairs and retaliatory military operations under Operation Sindoor, public safety has taken precedence. BCCI Aligns with National Security Efforts Sources suggest the decision was taken following high-level consultations involving national security agencies and top government functionaries. The temporary suspension allows authorities and organizers to conduct a fresh risk assessment and explore alternate plans, including relocating remaining fixtures or extending the tournament window. The BCCI’s stand has been widely appreciated by fans and commentators alike, who have echoed the sentiment that national security must come before sport. Teams have been advised to remain in secure zones, and no practice sessions or public appearances will be held until further notice. As India continues to respond to cross-border threats and internal security alerts, the BCCI’s action reflects a conscious effort to ensure that the nation speaks in one voice—even through cricket. The board is expected to issue a detailed update later this week once a full review of logistics and safety protocols is complete.
