Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a significant health initiative for senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) on Tuesday, October 29. The new scheme will provide free medical coverage up to ₹5 lakh at any AB-PMJAY empaneled hospitals across the country, starting from today. This initiative aims to provide financial relief to elderly citizens by offering comprehensive healthcare services. Eligibility and Benefits Under AB-PMJAY Under the scheme, any citizen aged 70 and above can avail the Ayushman card, which entitles them to receive medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh annually for various procedures and healthcare needs. The scheme covers a wide range of treatments, including surgeries, hospitalization, and emergency care, ensuring that senior citizens receive timely and quality healthcare without the burden of medical expenses. Eligible individuals can apply for the Ayushman card by visiting official registration centers or through online portals. Applicants will need to provide necessary documents, including age proof, identification, and residency details. Once approved, they can access the benefits at any of the thousands of AB-PMJAY empaneled hospitals. U-WIN Portal to be Launched for Vaccination Records Alongside the health coverage scheme for senior citizens, PM Modi will also unveil the U-WIN portal, a new platform modeled after India's COVID-19 vaccination management system Co-WIN. This digital platform will maintain permanent vaccination records for children from birth to 17 years of age, as well as pregnant women, providing a streamlined and secure method for tracking immunizations. The U-WIN portal is expected to enhance the efficiency of vaccination programs across the country, ensuring better health management for children and mothers. These initiatives are part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare access and enhance the well-being of vulnerable populations across India.
