The Supreme Court on Monday declined urgent listing of a public interest litigation seeking a CBI-led probe into alleged financial irregularities and missing donation funds linked to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Ram Mandir Donation Plea The petition sought an independent, time-bound investigation into allegations of misappropriation, diversion and embezzlement of public donations meant for the construction and management of the Ram Mandir. The matter was mentioned before a vacation bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Sheel Nagu. The petitioners argued that electronic and financial evidence could be tampered with if urgent directions were not issued. Supreme Court Declines Urgent Hearing The bench declined to grant urgent listing and asked the petitioners to provide a copy of the plea to the court registry. The matter is expected to be examined in due course, likely after the summer vacation. The petition was filed by advocates Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav. It named the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the Uttar Pradesh government and the Union of India as respondents. CBI Probe And Evidence Preservation The plea argued that the existing state-level SIT may not have the required forensic and investigative infrastructure to handle a complex financial probe. It also claimed that the inquiry had begun without registration of a formal FIR, which could affect the evidentiary value of its findings. The petitioners sought directions to preserve donation registers, ledgers, CCTV footage, bank records, software databases and other financial material. They also requested a court-monitored mechanism to prevent tampering and ensure transparency in the handling of public donations.
