India has said that Chinese troops periodically disrupt peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by deviating from established patrolling patterns. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued the statement on Friday, October 23, 2026, following remarks by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur confirming continuing face-offs with Chinese forces at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh. MEA Blames Chinese Patrolling for LAC Tensions MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said disturbances occur when Chinese forces depart from established border patrolling arrangements. He maintained that India and China continue using existing diplomatic and military mechanisms to resolve outstanding disputes and prevent misunderstandings along the LAC. Jaiswal also confirmed that both countries had agreed to discuss measures to improve their understanding of the disputed boundary in appropriate areas. However, he referred questions concerning specific confrontations to the Ministry of Defence. ITBP Chief Confirms Face-Offs in Arunachal Pradesh Kapur had earlier acknowledged that confrontations with China's People's Liberation Army were continuing at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Speaking at an ITBP event in Alwar, Rajasthan, ahead of the force's 65th Raising Day, he praised the newly established Shaurya commando units for their performance during the encounters. The ITBP chief also outlined plans to strengthen border preparedness through specialised training, modern weapons, drones and counter-drone systems. Congress Seeks Clarification on India-China Border The developments prompted Congress leaders to demand clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the situation along the Arunachal Pradesh border. The opposition questioned reports that Chinese forces had restricted Indian patrolling activities in certain areas. India and China held military-level discussions in September to address border-related concerns. The MEA reiterated that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC remains essential for improving bilateral relations.
