An Indian Army soldier and his civilian associate have been arrested in Amritsar for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Soldier Accused of Sharing Border Secrets The soldier, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, was reportedly posted at a sensitive location near the India-Pakistan border. Sensitive Data Allegedly Compromised According to the preliminary probe, the data allegedly shared included information on border surveillance installations, armoured unit positions, and vulnerability assessments of key military zones in Punjab. These disclosures, officials say, could have seriously jeopardized India's defensive preparedness along the western frontier. As a preventive step, the army has initiated a reevaluation of security measures at affected locations and ordered fresh audits of its digital communication systems. Deepening Concern Over Internal Breaches The arrest comes amidst heightened scrutiny over insider threats and growing concern about cyber vulnerabilities in the armed forces. Intelligence agencies suspect the involvement of a wider espionage ring and are currently examining the digital footprint of both accused individuals to uncover the full extent of the leak. Forensic analysis of their phones and communication history is underway, and additional arrests have not been ruled out. Security Reforms Underway This latest breach has prompted a high-level review of personnel vetting procedures, especially among those stationed at forward operating bases. The army is also considering compulsory counter-espionage training modules and stricter controls over personal device usage within camps.
