A United Nations Security Council sanctions monitoring report has officially attributed the November 2025 Red Fort car bomb attack in Delhi to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The blast killed 11 people, injured several others and caused extensive property damage near the historic monument. AQIS Linked to Red Fort Terror Attack The attack occurred on November 10, 2025, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near the Red Fort in Delhi. Investigators subsequently identified a suspected terror module linked to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), an organisation associated with AQIS. Ten accused were charged in connection with the conspiracy. The alleged main perpetrator, Dr Umar Un Nabi, an assistant professor of medicine who worked in Faridabad, died in the explosion. UN Report Flags Growing AQIS Network The UN monitoring report said the Red Fort attack had been officially attributed to AQIS and raised concerns about the organisation attempting to establish operational cells in Bangladesh. The report said AQIS has evolved from a fragmented organisation into a broader regional terrorist entity, developing logistical and financial networks while operating through small, decentralised cells. The assessment highlights continuing concerns over AQIS activity across South Asia. NIA Probe Revealed Wider Terror Plot Investigators alleged that members of the module had stockpiled weapons, manufactured explosives and experimented with different forms of improvised explosive devices. The probe also indicated that the group planned to expand its operations to other parts of India before the network was disrupted. The latest international assessment reinforces findings from the investigation linking the deadly Delhi attack to the wider AQIS network.
