Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the Centre aims to make India “infiltrator-free” within a short period, announcing intensified coordination with border states as part of a broader internal security strategy. His remarks came at the conclusion of the National Security Strategy Conference in New Delhi. Amit Shah Pushes Infiltrator-Free India Strategy Shah said the government had engaged with all land-border states over the past eight months and shared a four-pronged border security framework involving security forces, government agencies, state administrations and local communities. Calling illegal infiltration a threat to national security, the economy and demographic stability, Shah said India was “not a Dharamshala”. His comments referred to illegal entrants; foreign nationals who are legally authorised to live, work or travel in India remain governed by applicable immigration and visa laws. The government has not announced a specific deadline for achieving the stated infiltrator-free target. Border Security Central to National Security Plan The two-day conference brought together senior officials from state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies and other security institutions to examine emerging national security challenges. Discussions covered illegal immigration, terrorism, cybercrime, narcotics trafficking and the use of technology in policing. Shah urged security agencies to anticipate threats that could emerge over the next 15 to 20 years rather than focusing only on existing challenges. Amit Shah Sets Criminal Law Implementation Target Shah also said the Centre wants complete implementation of India’s three new criminal laws within the next year. He claimed the reforms could eventually enable criminal cases to progress through the judicial system, including appeals up to the Supreme Court, within three years and could increase conviction rates by 25%. He also directed state police forces to implement the Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026-2029 under a “Detect, Disrupt and Destroy” approach against drug networks.
