AASM HAMMER: Precision Weapon for Versatile Combat The AASM HAMMER is a next-generation air-to-surface weapon known for its modularity and precision. It can be configured with a range of guidance systems, including GPS, inertial, infrared, and laser, allowing for accurate strikes across various mission types. With a stand-off range of over 70 kilometers, the HAMMER allows Tejas pilots to engage heavily defended or high-value targets from a safe distance. This capability reduces exposure to enemy air defenses and enhances survivability during strike missions. Integration Timeline and Flight Validation The process of integrating AASM HAMMER into the Tejas Mk1A began in 2020. By November 2021, HAL had confirmed the acquisition of the munitions. Since then, multiple flight validation tests have been conducted to assess the seamless deployment of HAMMER on the Tejas platform. The trials validated system compatibility, fire control, and successful targeting accuracy. These achievements bring the Mk1A variant closer to full combat deployment, especially in scenarios that require precision-strike capabilities under contested airspace conditions.
