Iran has blacklisted 45 vessels over alleged violations of its transit rules in the Strait of Hormuz, including two vessels linked to India and a Pakistan-flagged crude oil tanker. Tehran has warned that the vessels could face fines, detention, seizure or confiscation if they attempt future passages through the strategic waterway. Iran Blacklists 45 Ships in Strait of Hormuz The blacklist was issued by Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which accused the vessels of violating arrangements set by Tehran for transit through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian authorities have not publicly detailed the specific violations attributed to each vessel. The list includes crude oil tankers, LNG carriers, product tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels. Most of the vessels are linked to companies based in the United Arab Emirates, while others have connections to countries including India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and South Korea. Indian Ships Among Blacklisted Vessels Two vessels linked to India are included on the list: the LNG tanker Disha and the bulk carrier Maha Roos. Disha is associated with India’s LNG supply chain and had previously been involved in voyages between India and Qatar. The Pakistan-flagged crude oil tanker Mardan is also among the vessels named by Iran. Some other blacklisted ships have previously transported energy cargo to Indian ports, potentially increasing the implications for regional trade and shipping operations. Iran Warns of Seizure and Confiscation Iran has warned that vessels on the blacklist could face restrictions including fines, detention, seizure or confiscation. It has also said ships conducting ship-to-ship transfers or transshipment operations with blacklisted vessels could themselves be added to the list. The move comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy shipments. With maritime traffic already severely disrupted by the ongoing regional conflict, the latest restrictions could further increase risks for commercial shipping and energy supply chains.
