₹102 crore project – Bharat Pulse News

The much-anticipated ₹102 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Pune has drawn sharp criticism from citizens and experts for exacerbating, rather than alleviating, traffic woes. Aimed at Better Traffic Flow Launched with the promise of streamlining city traffic, the ITMS was designed to manage traffic signals intelligently, reduce travel time, and improve overall road safety. The system incorporates AI-driven signal coordination and real-time monitoring to ease congestion in the rapidly expanding urban hub. Complaints from Commuters Despite these goals, residents and commuters report a significant rise in traffic snarls at major junctions. Many blame poorly calibrated signals and lack of synchronization for the worsening conditions. “Traffic has become unbearable during peak hours. The system seems to add confusion rather than resolve it,” said a frustrated commuter. Experts Demand Better Implementation Urban planning experts have pointed out flaws in the system’s implementation, citing the lack of integration with real-time traffic data and inadequate public awareness campaigns. They argue that without proper execution, such high-cost projects fail to deliver on their promises. PMC Responds to Criticism The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which spearheaded the project, has acknowledged the complaints and assured corrective measures. “We are monitoring the situation closely and will make necessary adjustments to ensure the system functions as intended,” a PMC official stated. The Road Ahead While the ITMS has potential, its success hinges on swift corrective action and better coordination among stakeholders. The public and experts alike urge authorities to act promptly to ensure that Pune’s investment in smart traffic solutions yields tangible results for its citizens.
