Suryakumar Yadav Clears Fitness Test Ahead of Asia Cup

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has cleared his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, paving the way for his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Suryakumar had undergone surgery for a sports hernia in Munich in June and has since been under rehabilitation. After weeks of recovery and training, the BCCI medical team confirmed that he is now fit to return to competitive cricket.

Boost for Asia Cup Selection

The selection committee will meet on August 19 in Mumbai to finalise India’s Asia Cup squad. With Suryakumar cleared, he is expected to play a crucial role in the middle order. The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. India will begin its campaign against the hosts before taking on Pakistan in a high-profile clash on September 14.

Leadership and Form

Suryakumar’s return is a big boost, both for his batting firepower and his leadership. He recently led India in the T20I format and is widely regarded as one of the most consistent performers in white-ball cricket. His recovery comes at the right time, as India will look to balance its squad with experienced players ahead of the tournament.

Other Key Inclusions

The team is also set to benefit from the availability of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has confirmed his readiness after his own recovery period. Together, their inclusion strengthens India’s chances in a tournament where competition will be intense and closely fought.
