Suicide Bombing in Quetta Kills Over 11 People

A suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives near a stadium parking area in Quetta, Balochistan, on the night of September 2, 2025. The blast occurred as supporters of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) were dispersing after a rally held to mark the death anniversary of nationalist leader Sardar Ataullah Mengal. At least 11 people were killed and around 30 injured, with later reports indicating the toll could rise to 13 dead and up to 35 wounded.

Rally Leader Unharmed

BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who attended the rally, escaped unharmed. Several of his supporters were among those killed and injured in the attack.

No Claim of Responsibility

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. Authorities are probing whether Baloch separatists or Islamist militants—both active in the region—may have carried out the attack.

Official Response and Investigation

Police confirmed the explosion was likely a suicide attack. The provincial government condemned the incident and ordered a high-level investigation. Emergency services and medical teams are continuing treatment for the injured as officials assess the full extent of the damage.
