Suicide Attack Kills 7 Pakistani Troops

Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide attack near the Afghan border in North Waziristan, security officials said on Friday.

Method of attack

According to the officials, the assailant rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of a military camp. Two other attackers attempted to storm the compound and were killed in firefights. Around 13 personnel sustained injuries.

Fragile ceasefire strained

The incident occurred during a 48-hour ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which had temporarily eased recent clashes. The bombing threatens to unravel the truce.

Claims and investigations

No militant group has claimed responsibility so far. The Pakistani army has not issued a formal statement. Investigations are underway to determine possible cross-border involvement.

Regional implications

The strike heightens pressure on Islamabad to decide between military retaliation or diplomatic restraint. Analysts warn it could reignite border tensions and complicate fragile security ties with Kabul.
