Starmer Brings Bollywood, Business to India
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has landed in Mumbai leading a record 125-member trade delegation, seeking to strengthen economic and cultural ties with India. The visit comes soon after the signing of the UK-India free trade agreement in July.
Focus on Films and Business
Starmer’s team includes business leaders, cultural representatives, and film industry executives. By highlighting Bollywood partnerships, the UK hopes to expand opportunities in both entertainment and commerce, blending cultural diplomacy with trade.
Trade Agreement Push
Starmer said the UK-India trade deal is a launchpad for growth, stressing that it should be implemented “as soon as possible.” He underlined that the agreement offers immediate opportunities for cooperation across sectors such as finance, tech, and creative industries.
No Visa Link in Deal
Clarifying policy, Starmer ruled out linking visa reforms to the trade pact. He stated that immigration issues will remain outside the agreement, keeping the focus solely on commerce and investment.
India’s Role in Global Growth
With India projected to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2028, Starmer’s visit signals the UK’s intent to prioritize India as a key partner. The inclusion of cultural exchanges, such as Bollywood visits, reflects London’s strategy of merging soft power with economic engagement.
