Sridhar Vembu Urges India to Build for Global Respect

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has urged India to prioritise domestic innovation, entrepreneurship and technological development to strengthen its international standing. His remarks, reported on October 24, 2026, came in response to American investor and mathematician Eric Weinstein’s concerns about growing hostility towards Indians, Hindus and Indian-Americans on social media.

Sridhar Vembu Calls for India to Build Domestic Capabilities

In a post on X, Vembu argued that India could earn greater international respect by developing its economy and institutions through the capabilities of its own people.

He emphasised that national progress should remain a priority regardless of which political ideology or party holds power.

Vembu encouraged Indians to concentrate on creating businesses, developing technology and strengthening domestic institutions rather than responding to criticism with resentment.

Eric Weinstein Raises Concerns Over Anti-Indian Racism

The discussion began when Weinstein expressed concern about what he described as increasing hostility towards India, Indians, Hindus and Indian-Americans.

He said he saw no justification for such hostility and urged social media users expressing these sentiments to stop following him.

Responding to the post, Vembu addressed discriminatory arguments questioning why talented Indians seek employment and opportunities overseas.

Rather than expressing hostility towards those making such remarks, he said India should respond by strengthening its own economic capabilities.

Zoho Founder Emphasises Innovation and Nation-Building

Vembu also addressed Indians who doubt the country’s ability to achieve sustained development, arguing that scepticism should be answered through practical achievements.

He maintained that successful companies and nations are built by people who believe progress is possible and work towards achieving it.

The Zoho co-founder has frequently advocated indigenous technology development, entrepreneurship and the expansion of economic opportunities beyond India’s major metropolitan centres.

His latest remarks reinforce his emphasis on long-term national development as a response to international prejudice and domestic pessimism.
