Smit Machchhar Tells PM Modi He Couldn’t Let Passengers Die
Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot praised for helping avert a possible disaster aboard flydubai flight FZ1073, has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the mid-air cockpit attack, saying he continued fighting despite his injuries because he could not allow passengers to die.

During the conversation, Machchhar told Modi that although he had been injured, his priority remained the safety of those on board.
The Prime Minister praised the captain’s courage and presence of mind, describing his actions during the emergency as an example of extraordinary bravery under pressure.
Modi also enquired about Machchhar’s health and recovery and conveyed his wishes for a speedy return to normal life.
Flydubai Captain Recalls Cockpit Attack
Machchhar was commanding flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv when his co-pilot allegedly attacked him inside the cockpit and interfered with the aircraft’s controls.
Despite suffering serious injuries, Machchhar managed to resist the attacker and open the cockpit door, allowing others on board to intervene.
The aircraft experienced a rapid loss of altitude during the incident before control was restored and the flight was diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia.
Indian Pilot Continues Recovery in Saudi Arabia
Machchhar has been receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia and has been reported to be in stable condition.
Indian officials have remained in contact with his family and local authorities while providing consular assistance.
The motive behind the alleged attack remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet publicly established whether the incident was linked to terrorism.
