Sky Force Review: A High-Flying Nostalgia Trip with a Few Turbulences

Rating: ★★★½ (3.5/5)

Bollywood finally decided to dust off the old fighter planes, and boy, do they fly high! “Sky Force” takes us back to one of India’s most daring military missions, serving up a cinematic cocktail of patriotism, adrenaline, and a touch of teary-eyed history lessons. It’s a movie that keeps you glued to your seat—if only to avoid missing Akshay Kumar’s steely expressions of, “I’m about to save the day.”

Akshay Kumar, as Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja, delivers yet another flawless performance. At this point, it feels like he could win a war single-handedly with just his eyes. But the real surprise package? Newcomer Veer Pahariya. The lad packs a punch as the hotshot Squadron Leader T. Krishna Vijaya, aka Tabby. First film, and he’s already out there making the veterans look like co-pilots. Respect!

Then there’s Sara Ali Khan as Geeta, Tabby’s wife, who had slightly more to do than just sip chai in the background. Sadly, even with that added relevance, her performance fizzles out faster than the ill-timed romantic song that pops up in the middle of military drills. (Seriously, Bollywood, who thought that was a good idea?) Meanwhile, Nimrat Kaur—graceful as ever—has such limited scope, she might as well have been the airbase mascot.

The film soars to great heights in the second half. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that wraps you in the pride of India’s unsung heroes. By the end, you’re misty-eyed, wondering why this fascinating chapter of history wasn’t in your school textbooks.

“Sky Force” has its flaws—a bloated runtime, some cliché dialogues, and that one song—but it does what it sets out to do: entertain, educate, and make you cheer for the IAF. If your couch is starting to feel too cozy and you haven’t been to the theatres in a while, this film might be the perfect excuse to get out of your funk. Just prepare for some mid-air turbulence along the way.

Final Verdict: A solid mission, with a few misfires. Watch it for Akshay, Veer, and the pride of seeing India’s air warriors on the big screen!
