Six Terrorists Killed in Kashmir After Operation Sindoor
In a swift escalation of counter-terror operations, Indian security forces eliminated six terrorists across two districts in Jammu and Kashmir within 48 hours. TRF Commander Among Three Killed in Shopian
On May 14, a joint team of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched an operation in the Alshipora area of Shopian. The encounter led to the killing of three operatives of The Resistance Front (TRF), including Shahid Kuttay—a top commander and key recruiter of the outfit, which is widely believed to be a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The elimination of Kuttay is being seen as a major blow to TRF’s leadership and operational networks in south Kashmir.
Pulwama’s Tral Witnesses Another Major Encounter
Just a day after the Shopian operation, security forces launched another offensive in the Tral region of Pulwama district on May 15. In the resulting encounter, three more terrorists were neutralized. This brings the total number of terrorists killed in the region to six within 48 hours—a scale of engagement not seen since the early phases of 2023.
Officials believe that the successive operations have significantly weakened the active cadre strength of Pakistan-sponsored groups in the Valley.
Crackdown Reflects Post-Sindoor Counter-Terror Doctrine
These encounters come in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory military operation following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian security establishment appears to have shifted gears from containment to preemption, deploying a zero-tolerance policy towards militancy both within and beyond its borders.

Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police, VK Birdi, praised the synergy among the security agencies and reaffirmed their commitment to uprooting the terror ecosystem. He said the encounters in Shopian and Tral are part of a sustained counter-terror campaign, supported by robust intelligence, local cooperation, and rapid response teams.
He emphasized that operations will continue to target remaining terror elements, especially sleeper cells and cross-border infiltrators. Security agencies remain on high alert across south Kashmir, anticipating further engagements as the crackdown intensifies.
The latest successes, experts say, are not just tactical victories but a psychological blow to militant groups trying to reassert control in the Valley.
